Music 1A: Updated Policy on Final Exam Session Test Re-Take

As you know, you may re-take either test #1 or test #2 at the final exam session. (You’ll do this after you complete test #3 at that session.) I have decided to try a modification of my re-take test policy this quarter, opening up this option to more students.

In the past, the option was only available to students who had a grade lower than C on the original test, and the best outcome was to raise the test grade to a C. This option was primarily presented for students who had failed a test, since failing two tests otherwise makes it impossible to earn a passing grade in the class.

After talking to one of the Music 1A classes, there seemed to be sufficient interest in re-taking the test among students who initially earned a C or higher that I would like to try offering that option this quarter. So, there is no limitation on who may do the re-take based on the grade on the earlier test. In addition, I will determine a simple average of the two grades (original and re-take) and not limit the outcome to a grade no higher than C.

I will have more to say about this in class…
