We are about 2/3 of the way through the winter term, and this is often about the time that I begin to get more questions about ways to maximize grades or make up for earlier grades that you wish were better. I’ll be giving you more details about these things in the next week or so, but today I’d like to briefly let you know that there are several opportunities that can help you get the grade you want.
- You will have the opportunity to re-submit one of the listening assignments that you missed or on which you got a low grade. This will include the first 7 assignments or so, and I’ll tell you more about this next week.
- You can earn about 1/3 of a letter grade higher in the class by attending extra credit concerts by the De Anza College Music Department groups during the final few weeks of the term. This is a pretty easy way to push your grade up a bit, and I’ll tell you more about it soon.
- You can improve one of your grades on test #1 or test #2, especially if you failed a test, by taking advantage of the option to retake one of the first two tests at our scheduled final exam session. More information on this option is coming soon.
- If your grade on the first concert report was lower than you had hoped, you may do the optional second concert report and earn a weighted average of the two report grades. The weighted average gives more weight to the second report, so if you go early, get to work early on the paper, and bring me draft copies to review… this can make a big difference.
All in all, any student can raise his or her grade by at least 1/3 of a letter grade and in some cases it might be a full letter grade or more. And, let’s not forget that there is still significant work left this quarter… and that your good efforts on that work can make a big difference, too!
